Our approach

HOW WE THINK ABOUT IT

Pruning is the part of tree work people get wrong most often, because it is easy to cut and hard to cut well. Take too much and you stress the tree into throwing up weak regrowth. Take the wrong limbs and you leave it lopsided and more likely to fail. We prune to keep the tree healthy and balanced, making clean cuts at the right points so the wounds seal over instead of rotting back into the trunk.

Most of what we do is crown thinning, lifting the canopy off a roof or driveway, and taking out the dead and crossing limbs that cause problems down the track. If a young tree needs shaping so it grows the right way, that is worth doing early. We tidy every offcut as we go, so the lawn underneath looks like nothing happened except the tree looks better.

Common questions

TRIMMING AND PRUNING FAQ

When is the best time to prune?

For most trees, late autumn through winter is ideal because the tree is dormant and the structure is easy to read. Dead and hazardous limbs we will take off any time of year.

Will pruning hurt the tree?

Done properly, no. We never remove more than a tree can handle and we cut at the right points so it seals over. Bad pruning hurts trees, correct pruning keeps them strong.

Can you just reduce the height?

We can bring a tree down in height where it makes sense, but topping it flat is hard on the tree. We will talk you through a reduction that keeps it healthy and looking right.
